Another COVID-19 case has been confirmed in Enugu state bringing the total cases to 9; two discharged, seven active cases, and no fatality.
The newly confirmed case is a nine-year-old child. The patient is a contact of the fourth case reported in Enugu who had positive travel history.
The patient has been admitted into one of the State’s Isolation and Treatment Centers and contacts been traced for necessary action.
As part of the safety measures, decontamination exercise of the patient’s home has been promptly carried out to avoid further spread of the virus.
Commissioner for Health, Associate Professor Obi Ikechukwu decried the reckless flouting of precautionary measures by citizens which has led to the increase in the number of cases in Enugu State.

Obi further advises residents of the State to step out of their homes only when it is absolutely necessary; ultimately, staying at home is the best precautionary measure.
“Wear an appropriate cloth face mask, avoid touching the front of the mask, and only remove the mask from both ears at once. Wash and iron the mask once you get home”, Obi said.
He further enjoined residents to imbibe the culture of social distancing; ensure there is at least 2m (or 6ft) between one another.
Practice proper respiratory hygiene (cough or sneeze into your elbow, use a tissue if you must and discard immediately into a safe and secure bin.
Wash your hands as often as possible with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Finally sanitize surfaces all around you as often as possible with a 1in6 mixture of bleach and water.
