Enugu State Government on Friday launched the distribution of one million fabric face masks to her residents across the 17 Local Government Areas for protection.

The fabric face masks were sewed and supplied by indigenous traders and trained tailors respectively, commissioned by the State Government in furtherance of her efforts to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the state

Production of fabric face mask will not only empower over 30,000 youths economically but protect the masses to some extent from spreading and contracting the virus.

Presenting the items to the public, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo said, “This gesture is a demonstration of the unique leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Our administration’s response since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has been proactively born out of deep empathy and concern for all, especially the vulnerable”.

“By this launching, we are creating awareness on the need to wear face mask while outside one’s home. The use of face masks is hereby made compulsory for residents of the state”, she said

The Deputy Governor further advised on proper handling of the face masks; must be washed and ironed always, avoid touching the face mask while on your face, and only remove it from both ears same time.

“However, for those caring for people already experiencing respiratory symptoms like coughing and sneezing, the elderly and those with chronic and underlying medical conditions should endeavor to wear medical face masks not fabric face masks”.
