The Golf superstar, Tiger Woods has called for calm in the ongoing protest over George Floyd’s death.
Woods describes the death Floyd as a “shocking tragedy”, noting that the law enforcement officers “trained so diligently to understand how, when and where to use force.”
He added that violent protests were not the answer as unrest is seen across the United State on Monday.
He expressed his “utmost respect” for police and likened the situation to the Los Angeles riots of 1992, after four police were acquitted over the beating of motorist Rodney King.
Currently, America is seeing its most widespread protests since the 1960s after Floyd death. Floyd is the unarmed black man who died while being arrested in Minneapolis.
Woods in his statement on Twitter says “My heart goes out to George Floyd, his loved ones and all of us who are hurting right now.” See the full statement below:
Strong comments from a number of athletes follow Woods’ statement. Some of them include the NBA legend Michael Jordan who writes “plain angry” and tennis player, Coco Gauff, who writes, “Am I next”.
