Barely five days in the den of kidnappers, the vice-chairman of Shelleng local government council in Adamawa state Mr Kama Lazarus Bakta , has been released local officials have said.
Reports say that Bakta was released by his abductors on Friday after an undisclosed sum of money was paid.
The Vice-Chairman was kidnapped in the early hours of last Tuesday in his hometown, Bakta by gun wielding gunmen.
Confirming his release, a family source said that, ‘’ we have fervently prayed for Honourable Kama Lazarus to regain his freedom.
‘’ God answered our prayers as he was released unhurt; whether a ransom was paid or not, that’s not our concern, we are only concern about his release,’’ said the family source.
Also confirming the development, the Chairman of Shelleng Local Government, Hon. Muhammad Abdullahi Kedi appreciated all those that help, in ensuring his release.
‘’ Praise and glory be to Allah, He has answered our prayers as our vice-chairman is now released from the den of kidnappers.
‘’Let me on behalf of the council thank and appreciate all those that help in prayers and concern in rescuing him,’’ Kedi appreciates.
While expressing concern on the rising incessant kidnappings in Shelleng, the council boss had asked residents to join hands with security operatives by providing useful information that could help in fishing out criminals plaguing society.
In his words, ‘’Security is for all, and people should join hands in the fight against insecurity and other social vices in our societies.
‘’At council management, we shall continue to provide all support to achieve the desired result however, our people also need to help by providing useful information and forming vigilante groups for neighborhoods watch.’’
The police spokesman in the state Sulaiman Nguroje had earlier said the police in conjunction with local hunters have mobilized and to trail the kidnappers.
Nguroje, a deputy Superintendent of police,” I can confirm to you that the police as well as the local hunters have mobilized and are on the trail of the kidnappers. We will do our best till the victim is released and the perpetrators brought to justice,” he said.
In recent time, is currently grappling with the scourge of social insecurity occasioned by the activities of kidnappers, armed robbery by a group of miscreants called “Shilla Boys” and the resurgence of communal clashes, making residents be in a continuous state of agitation.
