…Ondo Deputy Governor dumps APC, moves to the PDP.
Following a viral video showing the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, preventing the Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, from leaving the Government House on Saturday night, the Peoples Democratic Party says the police cannot stop mass defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the confrontation has prompted Nigerians to abandon the sinking APC and move to the PDP.
“The thoughtless and rude attempt to use the Police to stop the Ondo Deputy Governor from leaving the disorganized APC is symptomatic of the last kicks of a degraded and derelict political party that is now clutching at straws and can only resort to use of compromised security agents as face-saving measure.
“It is therefore a natural national course for democrats in the APC, who realized that the sinking party is completely irredeemable, to leave the APC in droves with their supporters.
“The PDP therefore cautions the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to note the tide and not allow the APC to use them as pawns to fight an already lost battle against Nigerians,” the statement read.
The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to call the Ondo Commissioner of Police to order to avoid pitching the police against the people and avoid break down of law and order.
Recalling alleged electoral violence in Kogi State during the governorship election in 2019, the PDP said: “Nigerians are aware that despite the exposed ignoble roles played by unscrupulous security agents in the Kogi and other elections under the APC, no redressing action has been taken till date by the current hierarchy of the police to reassure the police.”
Meanwhile, the party announced that Mr Agboola Ajayi has resigned membership of the APC and picked PDP membership card at Ward 2 Apoi, in Ese Odo Local Government Area.
