LifestyleNewsNigeriaWACOL Vows to Get Justice for Brutalized 10 Year-old Girl as Court Remands Her Guardians

Residents of Enugu and the nation awoke last week to the news of inhumane treatment of 10 years old Nneoma Nnadi by her relative and guardian who inflicts severe pains on the girl at the slightest provocation.

Individuals and groups have continued to condemn Mrs. Ifeoma Ozougwu and husband Jude the perpetrators of the dastardly acts.

The Women’s Aid Collective, WACOL, an independent, Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to helping women and young people in need on hearing the pathetic case of Nneoma has vowed to pursue the case to a logical conclusion.

Professor Joy Ezeilo, founder of WACOL stated this on Monday while briefing newsmen in Enugu on Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases reported within April to June in the state.

Ezeilo noted that Nneoma’s case was the worst case the organization received.

“This little girl was treated in a dehumanizing and horrendous manner”, she stressed.

“What could this girl have done to have angered her guardian so much as to press a hot iron on her body as well as insert pepper in her virginal as punishment?” she wondered.

Ezeilo however commended the timely intervention of the Enugu State Police Command and promised that her team of lawyers will not rest its oars until justice prevails and the culprits receive their well-deserved punishment.

Also speaking, Ochiagha Ozo, Chairman Akudiawa Lawyers Forum, who visited WACOL on Nneoma’s case, totally condemned the ill-treatment on their daughter.

“The indigenes of Aku, where the victim hails from, are still in shock over the maltreatment meted on our daughter,” Ozo said.

“We will mobilize lawyers from Aku to collaborate with WACOL to see that justice prevails. We regret the short but terrible time our daughter lived with the Ozougwu family” Ozo concluded.

Meanwhile, a Magistrate Court sitting in Enugu yesterday remanded Ifeoma Ozougwu and her husband, Jude Ozougwu at the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Nsukka.

The couples were arraigned on a three-count charge; attempted murder, reckless endangerment and unlawful torture of their 10-year-old house help Nneoma Nnadi.

The Chief Magistrate, Joseph Agu refused to grant bail application filed by the couple’s counsel but referred the case back to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice, pending the hearing of the matter on August 10, 2020 at the State High court.
