…Parents protest 25,000 COVID-19 tests

The Ogun State government has said that all Senior Secondary School Three students in the state must present themselves for Malaria and COVID-19 tests.

The State government said that only students whose COVID-19 tests return negative would be allowed to resume.

The test which had begun on July 31, would end on August 3. The government assigned three centres to carry out the tests, including the 250 MTR, Okemosan, Abeokuta; Odun State General Hospital, Ota; Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

The government in a statement, said that the directive was meant to ensure a safe learning environment for both learners and teachers.

“That ALL the returning boarding students are to stay in the school hostels only.

“That parents are hereby advised that private hostels are exempted from accommodating students during this period to ensure strict compliance with NCDC directives,” a statement by the government read.

Meanwhile, parents of secondary students in Ogun State, on Sunday, protested against the demand to pay N25,000 each for the COVID-19 test, the Punch reported.

The parents lamented that the economic situation in the country has made it difficult for them to pay such amount.
