Candidates of major opposition political parties in Ondo State, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) have selected running mates for the October 10 governorship election.
Eyitayo Jegede, the candidate of the PDP has picked Gboluga Ikengboju, a member of the House of Representatives, as his running mate.
“In the task of rebuilding the confidence of our people in their government and in restoring hope for a better life under a PDP administration in Ondo State, and following extensive consultations with leaders of our party, I am pleased to announce that Hon. Gboluga Ikengboju will be working with me in seeking your mandate in the October 10, 2020 governorship election,” Jegede wrote on his social media page.

Ikengboju, a Pharmacist, represents Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constitutency of Ondo State. His victory at the 2019 election was nullified by the Election Petition Tribunal because he has dual citizenship and swore allegiance to the United Kingdom. The Appeal Court later set aside the lower court’s judgment.
Similarly, Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi who recently moved to the Zenith Labour Party from the PDP after losing at the primary election to Eyitayo Jegede, has selected Gboye Adegbenro as his running mate.
Adegbenro is an ally of Olusegun Mimiko who also served as the commissioner for works during the former governor’s administration. He is from Ilaramokin in Ifedore Local Government.
