Professor Umar Pate has been elected the President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners (ACSPN).

Professor Pate elected at the end of the 7th annual conference and first virtual conference of the association.

Members of the Association had been holding a two days annual virtual conference that started on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

The secretary-general of the association, Professor Nosa Owens Ibe, proposed the nomination of Professor Pate as the new President to succeed the pioneer President, Professor Lai Oso.

The members of the association performed a voice vote that formally sealed Professor Pate’s candidacy as the next man to head the prestigious association.

Professor Pate’s emergency now relieves his predecessor, Professor Oso who has been the President of ACSPN since its formation eight years ago.

The two-day conference was attended by over 100 communication scholars and practitioners from all over the world.
Professor Pate is the Dean of Media Studies at the Department of Mass Communication, Bayero University, Kano.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Communicating Identities and Nationhood: Promoting Inclusive Democracy through Access to Information and Knowledge Societies”

Professor Pate who is also Kaigama Adamawa is a board member of many Media in Nigeria and held sway at the University of Maiduguri before joining Bayero University where he became Dean of Media Studies at the Department of Mass Communication.
