The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Thursday assented to the Enugu State Forest Guards Law during a meeting held at the Government House with thought leaders of the state.

The Forest Guards are to assist other security and law enforcement agencies in the detection and prevention of crime in the vast forests in the state.

“Security is paramount for development hence we are taking decisive steps to ensure that Enugu State remains safe and peaceful for her residents,” Ugwuanyi asserted.

“All the 17 Local Government Chairmen in our dear State were directed to ensure effective operations of the newly signed law and rejig our security architecture in consultation with the traditional rulers and Presidents-General of town unions,” Ugwuanyi further disclosed.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, on behalf of the leaders present revealed that Gov. Ugwuanyi had briefed them on the recent security issues in the state as well as the actions taken by his administration to arrest the situation to ensure that the state remains safe and peaceful.

“The Governor has told us the efforts and deliberations by the State Security Council on the recent civil disturbances in the state and reassured us of the state government’s resolve to do everything in her power to see that the culprits face the law,” Nwodo revealed.

Nwodo further stated that security in the state cannot be compromised especially now that economic review shows that Enugu State is one out of the six most viable states in Nigeria; the viability of each state was recorded on the basis of their capacity to generate enough internally generated revenue to sustain their recurrent expenditure without dependence on federal allocations.

“For the State to attract more investors she must be investment-friendly and security is not negotiable; hence the numerous measures put in place by this administration.

“We, the community leaders, traditional rulers, President-General of town unions, clergies, therefore support Governor Ugwuanyi for his good works in ensuring that the state remains one of the safest in the country.

We hence move a vote of confidence while urging him to keep up the good works,” said Nwodo on behalf of the leaders present.
