As Nigeria attained 60 years of nationhood, a former Member in the Lower Chamber in Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Mahmud Wambai has described the underdevelopment of the country to lack of implementation of designed policies for the betterment of citizens.
Wambai while speaking with Journalists recently in Yola, the Adamawa state capital noted that Nigerians are always good at planning, but when it comes to implementation issues will arise culminating in calling for conferences either on political, economic, or investment.
He explained that the country needs a leader with a passion for development regardless of his geographical affiliation.
“We don’t care who becomes President or who take the mantle of leadership, once we have a good leader and that person has this country at heart, will lead this Country.
“If leadership will truly come right from his heart, will take Nigerians at heart, not his own region, not his own people and economically, politically and socially he will give a fair hearing, fair sharing to Nigerians, I don’t think there are many problems as far I’m concern”. He said.
Wambai who represented Mubi North, Mubi South, and Maiha Local Governments in the National Assembly stated that despite challenges and upheavals the country went through since independence, ranges from Military coups, Civil war, and agitation for more States and resource control, Nigeria remain one indivisible nation with economic strides and achievements in agriculture and technological development.
The former Lawmaker who holds the title of Madawaki Mubi in the Mubi Emirate Council decried the attitudes exhibited by some leaders who have embezzled millions of naira from the country’s treasury and stashed them in foreign banks.
He called on political leaders to learn from the past mistakes and improve on it so that the country can forge ahead by creating an enabling environment for Nigerians in the diaspora to come back home and use their talents for the development of the country.
“Nigerians people have brains; developed countries acknowledged that economically Nigerians are doing best”. He averred.
