In an effort to address annual farmers/herdsmen clashes usually recorded during the harvesting period in Adamawa State, the Police Command in the state has organized Police-community engagement with various stakeholders to find ways of ending the conflict.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner of Police in the State Mr Olugbenga Adeyanju called on law-abiding citizens to work collectively in ensuring peace and security sustained in the state.

“The purpose of the meeting is to brainstorm and ensure that prevailing peace is sustained in various communities in the state as the people approach harvest season.

“Local government chairmen should hold similar meetings in their various areas to end the farmers and herdsmen crisis”. Adeyanju added

He commended people in the state for the relative peace and support being given to securities agencies and urged them to maintain the spirit.

The Police Boss harped on community policing, stressing that security is everybody’s business which should not be left to security and government alone.

In a remark, Special Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on security, Commodore Sinebi Hungiapuko (retd) described dialogue as the best option in ending the conflicts between herdsmen and farmers in the country and Adamawa in particular.

A representative of Lamido Adamawa who is also Galadima Adamawa Alhaji Aminu said the problem at hand deserved a multi-dimensional approach and modern strategy and declared the support of traditional rulers in that regard.

Contributing, the state chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza and his Muslim Council counterpart, Alhaji Gambo Jika separately pledged to continue championing the cause of peace.
