As part of celebration to mark Nigeria’s independence, the National Union of Adamawa State Students (NUADSS) dressed in Nigeria’s national color green white green went round some streets in Yola, Adamawa State capital in a procession chanted solidarity songs and terminated the procession at the main gate of Government House, Yola.

Muhammad Alhaji Adamu, President of the union, said the union deemed it necessary to commemorate the day by expressing appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for according the education sector the attention it deserved.

“The decision of the state government to reopen schools in strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols is a right step in the right direction.

“We applauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for prioritizing the education sector through various interventions including payment of scholarship allowance students among others.

“Under the Fintiri led administration, the condition of students and pupils in Adamawa has changed for good as a result of declaration of free education, feeding as well as payment of Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examinations (SSCE) fees for Adamawa students in public schools”. He added

Adamu stated that the students have observed with delight the roadmap of the present administration which is geared towards changing the negative narrative of the state and declared their unwavering support for it to succeed.

Responding, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri represented by the Chief of Staff Government House Yola, Professor Maxwell Gidado said the present administration is poised to reposition education in the state hence the steps so far taken.

“Students should reciprocate the government’s gesture by being law abiding and committed to their studies, the Governor promised to do more in the interest of students and the state as a whole”. He added

He commended them for identifying with his administration’s policies strategies and pledged to do all within available resources to make Adamawa great.
