The US Embassy in Nigeria has called on the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, security operatives and other stakeholders to ensure credibility in the upcoming Ondo guber poll.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the US embassy urged major stakeholders to ensure that that poll reflect the true desire of the people for the state.

The embassy also pledged to work with Nigeria to achieve the shared goals of peace and prosperity for both countries.

“The United States urges all stakeholders to continue to work toward free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections in Ondo State.

“We reiterate our hope that all participants in the democratic process, including the INEC, political parties, and the security services, will take concrete steps to ensure a peaceful election that reflects the will of the people of Ondo,” the statement read in part.

Last month, the U.S embassy imposed visa restrictions on politicians whose actions undermined democratic process in Kogi and Bayelsa state elections.

The Ondo State governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, October 10.
