The Nigeria Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd), has said the recent rescue operation by the special forces of United States on Nigerian soil was not a violation of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He added that the Nigerian government granted the US the required permission to carry out the military operation.
Over the weekend, the Special Military Force of the United State, successfully rescued the American citizens kidnapped by bandits in the northern part of Nigeria.
In an interview with journalists following the defend of his Ministry’s budget at the Senate on Tuesday, the Minister said the Nigerian government gave permission to the United States “as a friendly country,” soon after it was contacted by the government.
He dismissed the theories that the United States might have violated the Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Magashi added that the country was doing its best with what is available to the military in deploying adequate technology in its operations.
The Minister, said that Nigeria would explore the current partnership with the United States in fighting the insurgency in the country.
