Crime & SecurityNewsNigeria“Return To Posts,” Governor Ugwuanyi To Nigeria Police Force, Enugu

The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Wednesday appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, to renew her commitment in the provision of security of lives and property by returning to their duty posts across the state.

Ugwuanyi made this appeal when he visited the Senior Police Officers Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, to address and commiserate with the members of the Enugu State Police Command, over the loss of lives of security personnel, sustenance of bodily injuries as well as destruction of security infrastructures.

The mayhem unleashed by miscreants and hoodlums that hijacked the hitherto peaceful #EndSARS protests in Enugu left in its wake death of both police officers, private citizens and  massive destruction of public infrastructures including police stations.

This ugly turn of events led to the police officers withdrawing from their posts back to the barracks resulting in untold lawlessness and criminality in the state.

“The mayhem is unusual and has brought on the state and the police force a challenging period; it is an ill-wind that blew no one any good,” Ugwuanyi stated.

“To address this, our administration set up an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to determine the loss of lives and damages to properties; the panel has taken time to inspect the various degrees and nature of damage arising from the hijacked protests,

“We earnestly await their recommendations and are committed to implement same with a view to soothing the pains of the security personnel and private citizens who were victims of the mayhem,” Ugwuanyi reiterated.

“I therefore passionately implore you to fully renew your commitment to the provision of security of lives and property in the state, as was the case before the protests. The good people of Enugu State had, before now, enjoyed your excellent policing service and wish that you come fully on stream and return to all the security posts in the state”, he concluded.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Abdurrahman, expressed a deep appreciation of the Command to Gov. Ugwuanyi for his humility, sense of responsibility, concern, care and love.

Abdurrahman commended the Governor for deeming it necessary and expedient, in spite of his tight schedule, to come and commiserate with the men and officers of the Command, over the unfortunate fallout of the #EndSARS protest.

“This visit signifies that we are under a very comfortable hand and care,” said Abdurrahman.

He therefore urged the police officers to pray for the Governor; we also extend our love, dedication and patriotism to you and your administration to enable you comfortably discharge the responsibilities that God has placed on your shoulders,” prayed the CP.
