Members of the Nigeria Bar Association Yola branch on Saturday embarked on one and half hour walk along the major streets of Jimeta sensitizing people on the new Administration of Criminal Justice Law in the State.
Speaking to Journalists after the walk, branch chairman of the Association Barr Jibrilla Jimeta said the exercise is to sensitize the populace on the need to put all hands on deck and chase the menace of Rape and Gender Based Violence in the society.
“Parents and guardians should do away with the culture of silence, parents of the victims of rape should speak out, there is no shame by voicing out that your child or relative is a victim”. Jimeta said.
He stated that NBA as a nongovernmental organization is ready to provide free legal services to people and urged all concerns to collaborate with the Association to ensure the eradication of rape and other Gender Based Violence in the society.
Collaborating, Barr Rabi Buba said the walk is to keep members of the Association fit, socialize and discuss issues that affect them.
She added that the exercise is to create awareness to the people that lawyers are available and can defend them.
In his comment, Barr Binanu Runde Esthon, explained that walk exercise is to make the lawyers fit, strong and get more immunity to fight COVID-19 disease. He added that the significant of the exercise is to enlighten the people to know their rights, and where to go while seeking for justice.
