Mrs Catherine Amaka Ugwueze, on Tuesday at the hallowed chambers of the Enugu State House of Assembly took oaths of allegiance and membership as member-elect representing Isi-Uzo constituency.
Ugwueze emerged winner of the 5th December, 2020 bi-election organized to replace her husband who died in June 2020 after a brief illness.
In an interview with West African Pilot News at the rising of the House, Ugwueze expressed gratitude to God for emerging the winner of the bi-election and taking up the position of her late husband as the member representing Isi-Uzo constituency.
“My profound gratitude also to the Enugu State Governor and the entire PDP stalwarts who unanimously made me the flag bearer of the party; I cannot take your support for granted,” Ugwueze said.
Ugwueze further told WAP, “I will bring my experiences in farming to the fore while also seeking out new innovations that will maximize outputs in the farming sector as the new Chairman of House Committee on Agriculture.”
Amaka Ugwueze’s victory brings the female legislators in Enugu State House of Assembly to four (4); the other female lawmakers are Onyinye Ugwu representing Enugu South Rural constituency ; Ethel Ugwuanyi of Igboeze North 11; Jane Eneh of Awgu North.
Speaking to WAP, Professor Sam Ugwu of Ikem in Isi-Uzo LGA is of the opinion that Ugwueze will represent her people very well.
“She has the social and academic capacity to represent us at the state house of assembly and we will continue to support and advise her when necessary,” Ugwu said.
The people of Isi-Uzo were in their numbers at the Enugu State House of Assembly complex to witness the taking of oath of allegiance of their sister.
