The Blackcap Movement, a political pressure group has honored 18 personalities that distinguished themselves in various fields of human endeavors.

The recipients include politicians, philanthropists, Human rights activists, and Academicians among others.

In his speech, the founder of the movement, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu said the movement was formed in 2015 due to bad governance and massive corruption.

“The blackcap as it is known today started as a mere pressure group of fiery young men who are not happy with Nigeria’s consistent slide towards anarchy and political perdition as a result of the twin maladies of bad governance and massive corruption.

“The movement in its few years of existence has stoutly fought social ills, injustice, and all manners of vices such as human right abuse, child abuse, and Police brutality”. He said.

The Guest Speaker, Former Vice-Chancellor Adamawa State University Mubi, Prof. Alkasum Abba who spoke on ” Corruption and Good governance” lamented that those who embezzled government funds go out free which affects governance in of the country.

Alkasum said people should be treated on an equal basis irrespective of their status in the society, while leaders should operate within the confine of the Constitution.

“Those who have their children in private schools, should not hold public office as no society can progress with deceit and injustice”. He said.

Represented by Prof Buba Aliyu, the guest speaker called for attitudinal change, saying the country has enough resources that can cater to the welfare of the citizenry.

“How can a civil servant acquired many houses and sponsored children in private schools, and we said there are no resources to cater for the population in the country”. He queried.
Some of the recipients who spoke said the awards are a challenge for them to do more.
