The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Reverend Chukwuma Onaga, has appealed to Nigerians to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 protocols as stipulated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Bishop Onaga, who made this appeal on Wednesday in Enugu in his Christmas message, cautioned that observing the stipulated protocols will help curb the spread of the deadly virus during the festive celebration.

“Christmas season is a season of sharing love and happiness among the people, particularly the less privileged in the society;

“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in this pandemic, we must be responsible to observe all the NCDC protocols so as not to spread the virus but love,” Onaga said.

“I have directed priests in the diocese to wear nose mask while celebrating Mass as well as ensure the all Covid-19 protocols are observed during worship,” Bishop reiterated.

“Many Nigerians are no longer washing their hands, wearing nose mask and keeping physical distances;

“People now flaunt all the protocols thereby endangering their lives and loved ones; we must not take the grace of God for granted given the country lacks adequate functional health facilities,” the Catholic prelate regrets.

The Bishop then asked Christians not to lose hope but see the pandemic as a way God is calling humanity back to himself.
