In Charanchi Local Government Area, Kastina state, some residence took out their anger on suspected armed men who had visited the community cattle market.

Upon arrival, angry residents set the suspects ablaze. Although the intentions of the suspects remain unclear, they were reported to have sophisticated weapons in their possession.

Local sources explained that that the suspects had been under the discreet watch of the community vigilante group who trailed them as they made their way into the market.

“They came to Charanchi with sophisticated weapons but unknown to them, the vigilante group followed them.

“All of them were wearing a long overall gown apparently to conceal what they were carrying.”

“The vigilante searched the bandits and found Ak-47 in their possession. On seeing the rifle, the people of the market descending on them, killed two of them instantly, and set them ablaze,’’ a villager who witnessed the incident said.

Tension among residents is on the rise as insecurity plagues the north-west due to persistent violence, farmers-herders, banditry, and infiltration by Islamist militants.
