Don Davis, the JSS 1 student who was allegedly molested in Deeper Life High School was moved to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Akwa Ibom on Wednesday for further medical investigation.

The Commissioner For Information, Ini Ememobong in a statement disclosed the recent development, noting that investigation of the allegations has is now been conducted by the police.

“The government remains committed to unraveling the truth in the sexual abuse allegation and would “prosecute anybody found culpable of any wrongdoing,” he said.

He stated that the victim’s parents and other interested parties gave their consent for the boy to be taken to the referral centre which is at the Immanuel General Hospital, Eket.

Meanwhile, the  Akwa Ibom commissioner for education, Nse Udo Essien, who was charged with investigating the sexual abuse allegation on behalf of the government has been asked by the attorney general of the state to hands off the case as the police were already on the case.

Recall that WAP had reported that the mother of the victim, Dozie Okezie had called out the commissioner, accusing her of been biased with the investigation.

The mother had alleged that her 11-year-old son, Don Davis, was starved and molested by some students after he was moved by the school principal from the junior students’ dormitory to a dormitory filled with senior students because he was bedwetting.

“Look at a child I sent to school, he came back with a broken anus.

“People who have children in boarding school don’t know what these children go through, boarding school of these days is not like the boarding school of those days,” she said.

Apart from the police, organisations such as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking, Mirabelle Centre, FIDA Akwa Ibom, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Response Unit of the Ministry of Justice, Akwa Ibom State, have shown interest in the case and the ongoing investigation.
