The Anambra State Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Christian Madubuko has resigned his appointment, effective from December 31st, 2020.
The Commissioner who joined the administration of Governor Willie Obiano as Commissioner for Trade and Commerce was later redeployed to serve as Commissioner of Transport, from where he was moved to serve as Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs.
Until his resignation, Dr. Christian Madubuko was a Commissioner in Anambra state for not less than three years. He hails from Anyamelum Local Government Area of the state and was formerly a teacher in Australia before joining the administration of Governor Willie Obiano.
Speaking to the West African Pilot News during which time he confirmed his resignation, Dr. Christian maintained that he has no much to say regards to the reason(s) for his resignation. The former Commissioner upheld his earlier position that at the right time, he will comment on his resignation. “I will speak at the appropriate time on my resignation. Not now”, he said. However, in another interaction with the West African Pilot News reporter, Dr. Christian said justification for his resignation is best known to him. “I resigned for personal reasons”, he said.
As at the time of filling this report, it is not clear what is precisely behind the resignation of Dr. Madubuko who is now the first Commissioner to resign from Willie Obiano’s cabinet. The government has not made any comment on the resignation, even as it remains almost a secret around the state. However, the removal of Dr. Madubuko from the Transport Ministry and the upcoming governorship election in Anambra state may altogether be unconnected to his decision to resign his position as Anambra State Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism. As expected, Anambra state has now fully gone into the political season because of the coming governorship election, expected to hold later in the year. Generally, the coming gubernatorial election in Anambra have consequences and implications for players and politicians in and out of government.
