It is now a daily phenomenon in Nigeria that records of criminality is being recorded ranges from Kidnapping for ransom, banditry, terrorism and other crimes being perpetrated which government and security operatives are trying to bring to an end.

However, some Islamic scholars said part of the measures government should do to achieve success in the fight is to enlist first aiders of religious groups into the nation’s security forces.

The National Chairman of Izalatil Bidi’a Wa’ikamatis Sunna Sheik Abdullahi Bala Lau and a lecturer with the Federal College of Education Dr. Bashir Aliyu Hong made the suggestion in a separate interview with newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

According to Lau, “security sector can only be sanitized, if people of proven integrity and fear of Allah are enlisted into the service.

“The teeming youths from various religious groups have the capacity to contribute in the security system because they are conversant with the rule of first aid.

“I’m suggesting that during enlistment of police officers or soldiers, government should consult the Islamic and Christian organizations to serve as guarantors to those to be enlisted as a way of sanitizing the whole system”. He added

Lau advised to the Federal government to review upward the salaries of security personnel so as to reduce corruption amongst the personnel.

In his comment, a lecturer with Federal College of Education FCE Yola, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Hong said “Nigerians should come together and discuss security challenges confronting them at wards level, adding that security is everybody’s business.

“Unless Nigerians irrespective of their religious, ethnic or social background unite and collectively take a common stand on various security challenges, the issue will continue to be a clog in the wheel of the nation’s growth and development”. Hong said.
