Garkida, one of the biggest towns in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa state has come under a series of attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents resulting in loss of lives and properties worth millions of naira.
Disturbed by the trend, a group of Youths under the auspices of Project Protect Garkida (GPP) has appealed to the government to make Garkida safer by enhancing security in the area.
The group made the appeal during a press briefing held at the Nurses House in Jimeta through its spokesman Pastor Samuel Bulus Midala stressed the need for stronger security commitment to guard against a reoccurrence of the attacks by the insurgents.
“The group came together to reawaken the government on its mandate of protecting lives and property of the citizenry, the people of the area have enough of the attacks as properties worth millions of naira and lives were lost during each attack.
“Government and Elders from the area should be blamed for keeping silent over incessant attacks on Garkida, the attacks are aimed at annihilating the people as well as truncating the prevailing peace once enjoyed by the people of Garkida.
“We appreciate the effort of security agents in the area, youths in the area are willing to give all the necessary support to security agents to enable them to discharge their statutory mandate”. He said.
Midala, therefore, called on stakeholders to take appropriate action to secure Garkida, rehabilitate and ensure peace and security are restored.
“There is a humanitarian crisis in Garkida while neighboring communities are vulnerable to attacks”. He added.
He urged people to be vigilant and report suspicious movements to appropriate quarters to help curb attacks on Garkida.
