In its continued fight against illicit drugs in society, the Adamawa State Command of National Drugs Law enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Monday paraded 42 suspected drug peddlers with illicit drugs weighing 11.431 kilograms.

Idris Mohammed Bello, State Commander of the agency told Journalists at the NDLEA Office in Jimeta, said the arrest was made in the first ten days of the year 2021.

“The arrest was made in Bola joint in Vinikilang, Wuro Jebbe, Gyhurin in Fufore, Yola market, Pasham in Demsa, Gerio in Jambutu and Bank road in Jimeta.

“The command in the previous year arrested a total of 200 suspects including 7 females with illicit drugs weighing two thousand and eighty-three (2,083) kilograms.

“Fifty-seven (57) of the suspects have secured various jail terms up to five years by the courts while the case of fifty-eight (58) is still pending in a Federal High Court”. He said

Bello added that under its drug reduction programme it has thirty clients, but of the number seventeen were discharged, stressing that the agency has embarked on enlightenment program to educate people on dangers associated with drug abuse.

He appreciated the effort of other sister security agencies as well as the media in the success recorded in the fight against hard drugs in the state.

The commandant also thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the support to the agency to rid the state of drug menace.
