NewsNigeriaPeaceConflicts: NGO Poise To Mitigate Reoccurrences

As a panacea to finding lasting peace in Lamurde and Yola North Local Governments in Adamawa, the Global Peace Development, a non-Governmental organization will engage critical stakeholders in two local governments so as to mitigate the recurring conflicts.

The Executive Director of the organization Mr. Ebrueke Esiki dropped the hint during an advocacy visit to the Adamawa State Commissioner of local government in his office

He said the organization is embarking on community peace resilience with funding support from the United States Government.

“The recurring conflicts and violence particularly communal clash in Lamurde local government and the growing activities of miscreants (Shila boys) in Yola North local government is becoming worrisome which require prompt intervention in the two local governments.

“The commitment of Global Peace Development is contributing its quota to the security architecture of Adamawa State.

“The community peace resilience intervention is aimed at empowering and creating an enabling environment for those communities to own the process that will lead to the promotion of lasting peace in their areas”, Esiki said.

He solicited the support of the Adamawa State Government through the Ministry of local government in making the project a success.

Responding, Adamawa state Commissioner of Local Government, Alhaji Umar Mohammed lauded the initiative of community peace resilience intervention, and commended the organization for its numerous contributions in Adamawa.

“The ministry will provide necessary support towards actualizing the project in Lamurde and Yola North Local governments”, he said.

 Mohammed explained that doors of the ministry are always open to partner with stakeholders in bringing lasting peace and development in the state.
