The River State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike commiserates with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and the family of Ekweremadu over the death of the Commissioner for Transport, Mathias Ekweremadu who died on Thursday 4th February 2021.

Arriving with his entourage to Enugu, Wike first visited his counterpart at the Government House then both Governors proceeded to the residence of Senator Ike Ekweremmadu, the elder brother to the deceased to pay their condolence visit.

In his speech, Wike described the death of Matthias Ekweremadu as not only unfortunate but a great loss to the Ekweremadu family, Enugu State Government, and the state.

“I was devastated when I received the sad news of the death of Matthias. But we must take heart as Christians and leave everything to God,” Wike consoled the Senator and the immediate family of the deceased.

“I urge you all to take solace in God at this time of your grief. Be consoled for he lived a worthy life and served the nation, Enugu State and humanity meritoriously and this is commendable,” said Wike.

Responding on behalf of the family, Senator Ekweremadu thanked Gov. Wike for making out time, out of his tight schedule, to visit Enugu State to commiserate with him, the immediate family of his late younger brother, Gov. Ugwuanyi, and the people of the state.

“I also appreciate you, Gov. Ugwuanyi for the rare opportunity given to my younger brother to serve the state as the Commissioner for Transport,”

Senator Ekweremadu then announced that his family and Enugu State government have fixed Friday 5th March 2021 for the burial

Matthias Ekweremadu was the Commissioner for Transport until his demise. He was the former Chief Whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly where he represented Aninri Constituency between 2013 and 2019.

Matthias was also ex-Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Other persons present during the condolence visit include Austin Okpara, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Toby Okechukwu Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives; Martin Oke member representing Igbo-Etiti/ Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency; Dennis Amadi Udi/Ezeagu constituency; Cletus Akalusi State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Zonal Chairman, Enugu West Senatorial District, Ozo Okey Ozoani and the Chairman of Aninri LGA,  Ezekiel Chukwu, among others.
