The Adamawa State office of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has deradicalised about 70 Shila boys, returned some of them to schools, and got jobs for others.

Shila boys are a gang of youths armed with dangerous weapons that terrorize commuters in Jimeta-Yola, the state capital by disposing them of their belongings mostly handsets.

The Acting State Director of NOA, Bashir Gabdo, who disclosed this to newsmen, noted that the feat was achieved in collaboration with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

“The state government through the ministry of entrepreneurship has also availed the deradicalised Shila boys opportunities to be trained.

“Funding constraint is a major setback against the drive to get more of the Shila boys deradicalised noting that despite the challenge, the behavioural modification department of NOA is geared towards more feats in the future.

” We deradicalised about 70 of them. We got work for some of them and some were returned to schools.

” About 70 were deradicalised in our collaboration with NDE. We are training some at NDE while others were returned to school. The ministry of entrepreneurship gives us a little number to give them so that they can train them also.

” Our department has what we call behavioral modification department. So the department is seriously functioning. If not because of lack of fund we can go beyond that,” Gabdo said.
