Edward Ubosi, Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly on Wednesday during a valedictory service held at the Hallowed Chambers of the Assembly debunked the rumor that late Chief Matthias Ekweremadu’s death resulted from legislators’ harassment on that faithful day.

“How could we have harassed one of our own whom we extol his contributions while he was a legislator in the 6th Assembly?

“During the procedural screening of appointees, we the legislator’s asked him to take a bow, how then would we barrage him with questions that would lead to his death?; these allegations are preposterous,” Ubosi said.

He then cautioned the rumor mongers to desist from such destructive path in the name of politics.

Matthias Ekweremadu, was Commissioner of Transport until his demise. He was a two time Chairman of Aninri Local Government Area after which he became the legislator representing Aninri constituency; he became the Chief Whip of the State Assembly from 2015 to 2019.

Eulogizing the late Ekweremadu, Chinedu Okwu, member representing Aninri Constituency revealed some of the late legislator’s contributions in the Assembly;

“In 2014, Ekweremadu co-sponsored a bill for need for security check on influx of Fulani herdsmen in the state,”

“In 2016, he moved a motion to move the Enugu State library situated near Ogbete market to a more serene environment conducive for learning.”

Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the family, the elder brother of the deceased, Bright Ekweremadu, appreciated the legislator’s for organizing the service on behalf of his late brother and the State Government for the opportunity given his younger brother to serve the state in different capacities.

He dismissed the insinuation going round that there is serious division in the family, stressing that Ekweremadu family is united.

The valedictory session was attended by the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the deputy minority leader in the House of Representatives, Tobe Okechukwu, member representing Udi and Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Dennis Oguerinwa, the immediate past President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo among other dignitaries.
