ENUGU — The Archbishop of the Enugu Ecclesiastical Anglican Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has advised religious and political leaders in the country to be diligent in service.

The Anglican archbishop gave the advice in Enugu on Thursday while addressing some journalist in his office.

The cleric asked politicians to see their positions as an opportunity to serve the masses, who entrusted their collective will to them.

He said it had become imperative for leaders of the country to be ready to pay a price in their leadership position to save the nation.

He warned political office holders against forcing unpopular policies and programmes on the people, saying doing such amounted to violation of the position entrusted to them.

Chukwuma reminded priests of their spiritual roles in guiding and directing the people of God aright, urging them to be committed to the divine assignment.

While charging them to be faithful in the discharge of their duties, he urged them to be true and humble shepherds in order to pasture the flocks under them properly.

He cautioned priests under him to avoid being carried away by their leadership positions, warning that he would not hesitate to call any priest misbehaving to order.

“Put your leadership position and serve with love because that is where the joy of the Lord lies,” he said.
