Yobe State Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana has formally handed over the 3-Star Hotel edifice to the management of Yobe State University following the approval to that effect by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, The West African Pilot News, has gathered.

The structure will now serve as the Clinical site of the College of Medical Sciences, Yobe State University for the training of Medical Doctors and other cadres of Healthcare Professionals as part of strategies to meet the health manpower need of the state.

Handing over the structure, Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr Muhammad Lawan Gana explained that the building was handed to the State Ministry of Health in 2015 in order to make preparations for the establishment of clinical site of the College of Medical Sciences of the Yobe State University, Damaturu.

“Governor Buni approved the handing over of the 3-Star Hotel to the management of the University to serve as the Clinical site of the College of Medical Sciences in line with the accreditation requirement of both the National University Commission (NUC) and the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

“Governor Buni is committed to the provision of accessible, affordable and available qualitative healthcare services to the citizens of Yobe through a highly professional, committed and motivated health workforce.
“And this can only be achieved he said through training of citizens in the various cadres of health manpower.

Receiving the building, the Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof Mala M. Daura thanked the Governor for the approval of the building to serve as the Clinical site of the College of Medical Sciences.

The Vice-Chancellor added that Governor Buni has also approved the architectural redesigning and renovation of the edifice to meet with the accreditation requirements of both the NUC and MDCN.

The VC said that admission and training of medical students has already been commenced at the pre-clinical site of the University.

“Accreditation team from the NUC and the MDCN are being expected to visit the clinical site any moment from now so that clinical training if medical students can commence in earnest”, he said.
