The Adamawa State Police command has confirmed the killing of its officer by hoodlums in Lafiya.
According, to Press Statement by the command’s image maker DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the hoodlums numbering about 60 armed with dangerous weapons killed Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP Ibrahim Abdullahi and injured three other Policemen while trying to effect the arrest of the wanted Criminal in Lafiya.
Part of the statement read “On 24/4/2021 between the hours of 12 to 1am the Command’s operatives attached to Numan Division while in Lafiya to effect arrest in a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Theft that is under investigation, hoodlums numbering about 60 armed with dangerous weapons attacked the policemen while trying to effect arrest of the wanted Criminal, following the attacked, One officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi paid the supreme price while three others sustained various injuries.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Adamu Alhaji, commiserates with the family and friends of the deceased officer”.
He warns that consequences await any person or group of persons who, under whatever guise, engages in an unwarranted attack on any police officer, and directs all Command DPOs, HODs, and Operational Commanders to employ all legally permissible measures to protect their lives and properties.
The statement added that investigation is still ongoing and the perpetrators of the dastardly incident will be prosecuted in due course. The police command then calls on members of the public to desist forthwith from attacking policemen and police facilities.
