The South East Governors, clergies and traditional rulers on Sunday affirmed their support for restructuring the country’s socio-political and economic operational system as a panacea to the nation’s recovery.

This is stated in a communiqué issued after the closed-door security meeting held in Government House Enugu, “The meeting is in support of restructuring, setting up of state police and other national issues as discussed in the last NEC meeting.”

They further revealed that a committee has been set up to work out acceptable modalities on the restructuring and state policing to be submitted to NEC in their next meeting.

Engr. David Umahi, Governor Ebonyi state while reading the communiqué also revealed the directive to the Attorney Generals and Commissioners for Justice in the zone.

“Hon. Attorney Generals and Commissioners for Justice of the South East States are to work with the Joint Security Committee to come up with an amendment of the existing State Laws to reflect the new Ebubeagu joint security outfit”.

He further stated that the stakeholders have set up an Advisory Board, structure and operational modalities for the joint security outfit, Ebubeagu.

To the Ohaneze Ndigbo President, the forum directs, “Form a South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee and Strategy and Welfare Committee immediately”; the Committees they said must become functional within the next 10 (ten) days from the date.

The South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee is to engage the people for the peace and security of our people and their visitors while the Strategy and Welfare Committee is to engage and protect persons who are being unfairly treated.

The forum further reiterated their commitment to state laws banning open grazing in the zone. They urged security agencies and the local vigilantes to enforce the ban in all the five states in the South East.

Present in the closed-door meeting are Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu Abia State Governor,  Prof. Placid Njoku Deputy Governor of Imo State, Uchechukwu Ogah Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development; President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Amb. George Obiozor; Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Alfred Achebe; Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, Archbishop Emmanuel Chukwuma of Anglican Communion; Bishop Goddy Okafor  Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) South East amongst others.
