The House of Reps has urged  President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria due to the surging insecurity.

The legislators passed the resolutions on Tuesday after an executive session that lasted for about three hours.

This latest legislative intervention is coming in the wake of the revelation by the Niger State governor, Abuabakar Bello, that Boko Haram terrorists are in control of territories in Kaure and Shiroro local governments of the state.

They also resolved to summon Mohammed Monguno, national security adviser (NSA), and the service chiefs to speak on the security situation.

The lawmakers asked the federal government to recruit more personnel into the military and the police.

Nigeria’s security situation witness an unprecedented surge in the last few months. In the north, Boko Haram insurgents, bandits consistently attack residents, kidnapping for ransom is rising while security agencies and government facilities are increasingly becoming targets of attacks by gunmen in other regions.
