The Commissioner for Information and Strategy Niger State Mallam Mohammed Idris has warned that anyone caught sharing fake videos with a view to driving the state and its residents into panic shall be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the Law.

The warning was contained in a statement released on Thursday, the Commissioner urged residents in the state to disregard a viral video of heavily armed gunmen purportedly moving into some parts of the state.

The statement read in part “Our attention has been drawn to a viral video of heavily armed gunmen said to be at the entrance of a town purported to be Niger State territory.

“The video is that of a terrorist group in Chad, but not anywhere in Nigeria.

“We would also like to warn rumour peddlers to leave Niger State and apply their services elsewhere.

“We would like to state that the information is false as no such thing happened anywhere in the state.

“However, we are aware of the current insecurity issues faced in the country and we are working tirelessly to flush out the terrorists causing this mayhem.

“Security agents are working bravely and professionally to restore stability within the shortest possible time”.
