Jigawa State governor, Muhammad Badaru, has instructed the state’s electoral commission to declare the council election results despite the controversy surrounding the Saturday election.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Habibu Kila, the governor was quoted to have been satisfied with the result of the election.
“The conduct of local government council elections in the state. The Governor says the way and manner in which people in the state conducted themselves during the election is commendable and results should be declared to anybody who wins.
“Governor Badaru enjoined the people of the state to always pray for peace to reign,” Kila said.
However, the election which was in 27 LGAs is not without controversy and allegations bordering on electoral malpractices.
A protest was held in Malammadori LGA over alleged fraud.
The exercise was disrupted in Dunari ward situated in Malammadori area by some aggrieved PDP members who alleged that the votes were being manipulated by electoral officials in favour of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
In protest, the party members burnt used tyres on the highway as they castigated the electoral officials.
