An outbreak of Circulating Vaccine Drive Polio Varius Type 2, (CVDPVT 2) has been confirmed in 14 states of the federation.

The states are Abia, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, FCT, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Lagos, Niger, Rivers, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.

Dr. Faisal Shuiab, Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, disclosed this at the 2nd meeting between the Northern Traditional leaders on PHC and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

Shuaib advised that Nigeria must guard her polio status jealously and stop the transmission of the CVDPVT2 in the communities.

“The agency embarked on town hall meetings across the zones to mitigate the Covid vaccine hesitancy challenge and address the concerns of the public and increase uptake of the Vaccine,” he said

Executive Director commended the efforts of the traditional leaders in curbing the spread of the Virus by publicly presenting themselves for the vaccination.

He appealed for the continued support of the Northern Traditional leaders for PHC with a special focus on Routine immunization and Maternal and Child Health interventions.

In his remark, the Chairman Northern Traditional leaders Committee on immunization and primary health care, and Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mohammad Mera said cases of the CVDPVT 2 have continued to spread in the states.

“The efforts of the traditional leaders, Covid vaccine Hesitancy, low immunization coverage and high rate of maternal mortality, the NPHCDA should take advantage of the traditional leaders who vaccinated publicly to motivate the general public to accept the Covid Vaccine,” Mera said.
