KANO — Kano State House of Assembly has ordered the suspension of the Chairman of Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado for one month for refusing to accept the new chief accountant deployed to the commission.

Hamisu Chidari, the Speaker of the House who made the declaration after a unanimous decision, said the suspension followed a petition received from the state’s accountant-general.

“The accountant-general lamented the Rimin-Gado’s refusal to accept a chief accountant posted to the commission.”

“The posted chief accountant was rejected and was even served with a rejection letter in that respect. This necessitated the office of the accountant-general to send a petition to the House of Assembly for its intervention on the matter.”

“After series of deliberations, the house agreed to suspend the chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission for one month to give way for investigation into the subject matter,” he added.

The assembly has referred the matter to its committee on public complaints.

Although Rimin-Gado denied the allegation, he raised the alarm of undue interference in the commission’s activities by powers-that-be, who anointed him for the job.

“Accepting an accountant-general from the executive would automatically subdue the credibility of the laws establishing the commission,” Rimin-Gado said.

Rimin-Gado had ordered the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure as well as key directors in the ministry to produce a financial record of diesel supply in the last six years, an exclusive reserve of the most powerful political bloc in the state.

The commission, under Rimin-Gado, prosecuted former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II for alleged misappropriation of public funds.

He equally queried the contract variation of multi-billion naira Cancer Treatment Centre, suspected to be anchored in proxy by a personality close to the government.

However, some sources said he rejected the posting of an accounting officer to protect his own interest.

He had been accused of diverting several millions of dollars sourced from international agencies in the name of campaign against corruption in the state.
