YOLA — The National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded plans to deployed personnel to 23 registration centres sited in the commission’s office in the 21 local governments in the state for the physical registration of eligible persons for the voters card.
Alhaji Kassim Geidam, Resident Electoral Commissioner for Adamawa State disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the update on the continuous voter registration held in the state Collation centre of INEC Yola Wednesday.
The continuous voter registration resumed on the 28th June 2021 through online pre-registration and afford registrants the opportunity of filling forms and uploading their pictures and required documents.”
The exercise has proceeded well in Adamawa recording 178,000 fresh registrations over the past week, as at 5th July, youths aged eighteen to thirty four years have recorded 105,000 which represent about 69% of those that have registered.”
“Based on evaluation of the security situation across the state, the commission will proceed with the deployment of 147,000 personnel for physical registration exercise the seventy centres across the state including some mobile centres, he added.
Geidam solicited the support of residents particularly those who have been waiting for the resumption of the continuous voters’ registration as INEC only wants to ensure that election activities are conducted in the conducive atmosphere of freedom and safety.
He stressed that stakeholders have the responsibility to sensitise residents in order to take advantage of the remaining days of online pre-registration exercise so as to avoid congestion during physical registration scheduled to commence on the nineteenth of July.
