ENUGU — The Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Surveyor Chukwuemeka Nnam today appeared before the Enugu State House of Assembly after ignoring their invitations 3 times.

Nnam was invited by a special ad-hoc Committee on Extortion and Multiple collections of levies in Enugu urban local government areas and other connected matters set up by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi.

The committee headed by Chinedu Nwamba member representing Nkanu East Constituency was set up to address, investigate and report back the issues of series of petitions from the public, business operators, developers, and residents on allegations of multiple levies and extortions from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of Enugu state government.

Out of the 9 public office holders invited for an interactive session, two ignored the committee of which Chukwuemeka Nnam is one.

Invoking order 19, Rule 155, Subsection 1 of the Standing Rule of the House of Assembly, Nnam was admitted into the floor of the House for questioning and answers bothering on his misconduct and disregard of the Committee and invariably the House as a whole.

Nnam however denied all the malicious publications attributed to him; the publications accused the Committee of requesting money and responsible for the death of their dead ex-colleague, former chief whip of the House, Late MJ Ekweremmadu, the member that represented Aninri constituency.

The Commissioner also denied instructing the town planners from appearing before the committee, “I only asked them to wait and receive proper briefing before honouring the invitation,” he said.

He however promised to put up a disclaimer to counter the malicious publication and then apologized.

“If in any way I knowingly or unknowingly, by omission or commission, by my conduct offended this honorable House, I ask that you find it in your heart to forgive me,” Nnam Commissioner for Lands pleaded.

After admonishing the Commissioner, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi, asked him to go back to the committee and render them the information needed as regards revenue chats of the Ministry of Lands, issues of extortions amongst others.

The House adjourned to Thursday 14th October 2021 when Chairman Enugu State Capital Development Authority, ECTDA, Josef Onoh is expected to appear before them to explain why he flagrantly ignored the invitation extended to him by the committee.
