ENUGU — The Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi today expressed disappointment at the attitude and behavior of the Chairman Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh.

Ubosi stated this at the Hallowed Chambers of the House of Assembly during the question and answer session organized to determine the reason behind the utter disregard of the institution by the Chairman ECTDA who failed to appear before a special committee on Extortion and multiple collections of levies in Enugu Urban Local Government Areas and other connected matters set up by the Speaker.

“We only invited you for discussion on the menace of double taxation and tariffs as it affects our people and the state. Nobody has accused you of mismanagement of funds and the likes,” Speaker said to Onoh who finally appeared before the House today.

Contributing also, Architect James Okereke Akadu, member representing Igboetiti West constituency, in his speech said, “The essence of the interactive session by the committee on extortion with MDGs is to discuss way out of multiple taxation, excessive charges which ECTDA is principally involved.”

“Between 2019 and 2021, there have been over 200% increase in what the agency collects in terms of building plans and approval; this is what the people are complaining about and it scares investors away,” Akadu said.

The Speaker further asked the ECTDA boss to avail the committee of the necessary information needed to complete their task but expressed disappointment that Onoh who was once a lawmaker not only disregarded the 3 times invitation but resorted to publishing malicious contents against the House of Assembly and replying to the committee letter of invitation through a lawyer.

Onoh in his response apologized to the House. He said his reaction was based on a publication he read on the media on the the17th of September 2021.

He however thanked his colleagues for the respect accorded him while assuring them of full cooperation whenever he is summoned.

Josef Umunnakwe Onoh is a son of late C.C Onoh. He was also a member of Enugu State House of Assembly 2003-2007.
