AWKA — Wife of late Biafra leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has thanked Anambra people for keeping faith with her husband’s legacy by giving the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA) a landmark victory in the state.
Mrs. Ojukwu, who had on the eve of the governorship election invoked the spirit of her husband to lead APGA into the electoral battlefield, expressed satisfaction not only with the conduct of the elections but with the fact that it was ostensibly violence-free.
Mrs. Ojukwu made her feelings known in a statement containing her reaction to the conduct of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra.
The statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Awka equally thanked party supporters and entire Anambra residents for their support.
The statement personally signed by Mrs. Ojukwu noted that the former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain was exceedingly grateful to the good people of Anambra State for their steadfastness and resolute to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s legacy.
She said that Soludo’s victory has breathed back hope into a political heritage that was slowly inching towards the eclipse.
“Soludo’s victory has given us the chance to live another day as a party, after almost 16 years of governance in the state, Anambra people have given us yet another fresh mandate”, she said.
According to her, ‘this victory presents our party with another golden opportunity to prove to the citizens of Anambra that our party’s welfarism agenda and commitment to the grassroots remains firmly in place.
” And that we are dedicated to correcting the misdeeds of the past as we usher in a new era of dynamism in governance”, she said.
Mrs. Ojukwu stressed that Prof. Soludo has proved beyond a reasonable doubt, by his past records, that he is capable of driving the transformation for Anambra and the entire South-East zone.
She also expressed the hope that the governor-elect would demonstrate a clear commitment towards repositioning APGA by reviving internal democracy, equity, and transparency in the workings of the organs of the party.
“The emergence of Prof. Soludo heralds a new dawn for Anambra, I am appealing to our party members who left in anger to keep an open mind.
” In due course, we hope that they will return and join hands in the process of rebuilding our party. The storm is over. it is now time for all to close ranks in solidarity and move our state forward”, she said.
