YOLA — The Judicial Panel of Inquiry into alleged brutality of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS in Adamawa State Monday submitted its report to government in three volumes consisting of recommendations, submissions and exhibits.

The committee was inaugurated in October pursuant to the directives of the National Economic Council following the nationwide protests last year against the disbanded security squad.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the 13-member Judicial Panel of Enquiry, Retired Justice Adamu Hobon, said the panel commenced its operation on October 2020 and completed it in January 2021, and worked on five specific terms of reference, mainly fact-finding.

Hobon revealed that the panel received 13 submissions from the public and compiled the report in three volumes consisting of recommendations, submissions, and exhibits.

The panel chairman saluted the people, security personnel, and particularly the mass media for their accurate reportage without denting the credibility of anybody which ensured success of the assignment.

Receiving the report in the Council Chambers Government House Yola, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri appreciated the sacrifice of the panel members for a job well done.

Fintiri assured that government will study the report thoroughly for implementation of its recommendations which he believed were arrived at based on merit by the panel.

The Governor was optimistic that the panel`s report will address extrajudicial killings and brutality called for respect, encouragement and harmonious work with the police by the public.

He called for continued peace-building in the state, adding that his administration will not relent in putting various efforts to address security challenges.
