KANO — A boat carrying over 40 passengers, including pupils of Madinatu Islamiyya School in Bagwai Local Government Area of Kano State has capsized killing more than 20 passengers.
The deceased students were said to be on their way to attend Maulud, an Islamic celebration held annually to commemorate the Birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad when the incident happened along Badau village to Bagwai town.
According to a source in Bagwai General Hospital, about 20 corpses have been recovered so far and deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
Recall that in 2008, 24 passengers died when a boat capsized in the same Badau village during a wedding ceremony.
