The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ombi 1 Lafia, Nasarawa State, SP Ugochukwu Theodore was removed on the order of the Commissioner of Police in the State, Adesina Soyemi.

Theodore was alleged to have demanded N40, 000 to carry out some electrical work and welding.

It was alleged that the DPO wrote to all hotels within his jurisdiction, demanding N240, 000 from each of them to repair the official Toyota Hilux given to him for patrol.

In the letter to the hoteliers, the DPO explained that the Hilux needed four new tyres, each N50, 000.

It said in return for the gesture, the hotels would be effectively protected.

According to a statement, issued by the police spokesman in the state Ramhan Nansel read in part: “The attention of the Nasarawa State Police command has been drawn to a letter written by the DPO Ombi 1, Lafia to Hoteliers and private business owners soliciting for funds to fix the patrol vehicle recently given to the Division by the commissioner of police, CP Adesina Soyemi.

“The act of the DPO came to the commissioner as a shock. The CP Adesina Soyemi provided Ombi 1 division with a brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle. The vehicle was without any fault and doesn’t require any electrical/welding works, neither does it require new tyres.

“In view of this, the commissioner of police has issued the DPO Ombi 1 SP Ugochukwu Theodore an official query and ordered for his removal from the division.”
