The President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday, 17th December, 2021, marked his 79th birthday in Istanbul, Turkey.
He was surprised with a cake by some Nigerian delegates who chorused “Happy birthday, Mr. President,” on sighting him.
The President as quoted by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said,
“I thought that being away from Abuja, I will escape these things. The Guards Brigade had written to tell me what they wanted to do on this day. Now here you are doing this far away from home.
“I look forward to the year 2023 when I finish, to go home to take charge of my farm. Between now and that time, I will do the best that is possible to advance the interest of the nation and its people, and carry out my duties as prescribed by the Constitution.”
Meanwhile, in the midst of the inflow of birthday wishes, former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri, did not hesitate to send some “reap-what-you-sow” wishes via his official Instagram handle. He wrote,
“I mark General Buhari’s alleged 79th birthday, by wishing him as much happiness as he has given Nigerians, and as much prosperity as he has given our countrymen and women, and as much personal security as he has given citizens of our dear country.
“May he be as fulfilled as the fulfilment of the campaign promises he made. May he be as valued as the Naira is valued. And finally, May he be as respected as he has made Nigeria’s passport and image internationally respected. In Christ’s Name.”
Reno Omokri’s use of the word “allege” signals to the controversy surrounding the president’s age as it is rumoured that his younger sister is five years older than him- (86 years old).
