The Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze has directed that henceforth no social or sporting activities organized by any person or group shall take place in any of the state public educational institutions without a written approval from his office.

The directive became expedient given the high rate of attempts to vandalize facilities in institutions of learning in the state.

In a letter with reference number, ENS/MOE/COM/241/IV/226 signed by Prof Eze stated, “The Enugu State Government in pursuit of quality education for her citizens has invested heavily in the construction, renovation and equipping of educational institutions at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels.”

“However, it has been observed that some unpatriotic and callous individuals have been making attempts to vandalize and steal these facilities put in place for the advancement of education in the state.”

To ensure the safety of facilities in academic institutions in the state, persons or group of persons desirous to use school premises for any event or sporting activities are to obtain written approval from appropriate authority.

Prof. Eze further directed heads of schools to enforce strict restriction of unauthorized entrance into the school premises and endeavor to clear the school environs to forestall fire outbreak in this harmattan season.
