NewsNigeriaASATU honors Prof. Kingsley Moghalu with an Award of Excellence

Anambra State Association of Town Unions –ASATU, has honored Prof. Kingsley Moghalu with an excellence award in Human Capital Development during the ASATU Cultural and Awards Fiesta this weekend, at Ekwueme Square, Awka, the Anambra State capital.

During the occasion in which Prof. Moghalu was the Keynote Speaker, members of ASATU and hundreds of other guests present were extremely awed by the measured precision with which Moghalu’s address was delivered. Prof. Moghalu who started by describing himself as “glocal”; that is to say that he is global, yet local, also noted that it is always satisfying to be recognized at home. Therefore, he expressed gratitude to ASATU for the recognition accorded to him. “I am pleased and honoured to have been invited and recognized by ASATU, an important network of grassroots community organization in our state”, Moghalu said in his opening remarks. Before the completion of his tenure as Deputy Governor of Nigeria’s apex bank, Prof. Moghalu was able to attract intervention fund to the tune of about one billion Naira, for construction of two standard hotels at Anambra State University, now Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. He also influenced CBN’s six hundred million intervention fund at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, as well as assisted in the employment of over one hundred qualified Southeasterners into the CBN.

Commenting on the just concluded Anambra state governorship election, Moghalu congratulated the government and people of Anambra state on the successful governorship election, but also expressed disappointment over the sad and unfortunate reality of ndi Igbo in the politics of Nigeria today. “I am worried that ndi Igbo, with at least 30 million Igbos inside Nigeria, appear to have become a political minority in Nigeria despite being one of the three ethnic majority groups”, Moghalu said. Looking at why this is so, the former CBN Deputy Governor and 2019 Presidential aspirant explained that this is so for two reasons; one is political apathy and second reason is bad political strategy, chief of which is ndi Igbo trying to launch into national stage with the two dominant political parties, PDP and APC, which he regretted appears unwilling to concede their presidential ticket to an Igbo. This, exacerbated by the fact that both PDP and APC have failed the country.

Prof. Kingsley Moghalu announced his membership of the African Democratic Congress – ADC and his intention to contest the 2023 presidential election on the party’s platform, while maintaining that “ndi Igbo and other Nigerians should vote a competent Igbo with a nationalistic vision and who supports the essential constitutional restructuring of Nigeria, regardless of his or her platform”.

Speaking on leadership and community organization, Prof. Moghalu averred that it was time for a return. “We must return to leadership and community organization based on ideas, not the influence of money… money is good, but character, values and knowledge must matter for any society that wishes to make progress. I urge ASATU to champion this revival”, Prof. Moghalu said.
