SOKOTO — The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended 37 suspected terrorists and 23 others criminals who have been terrorizing Rabah, Illela, and Goronyo local government areas of Sokoto state.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, (DIG) in charge of the operation, Zaki Ahmed while briefing Journalists at the command headquarters in Sokoto said the special force of the police identified the camps of the bandits linked to the notorious gang leader, Bello Turji and raided the area in three local governments of the state.

“The police recovered 32 AK-47 rifles, 2 RPG, 1Rocket launcher, 1,412 rounds of 7.62mm live Ammunition, 1,200 rounds of AA live Ammunition, 4 locally made pistol, 1barreta pistol, 3 pairs of Army camouflage uniforms, 4 operational vehicles, 10 cartons of pentazocine B.P 30 injection, 1 solar panel charger, 1 solar charger control, 1 lar rifle, 1 G3 rifle, 33 live cartridges, 3 AK-47 magazines, some assorted charms, 16 techno handsets, 2 bow and arrow and cutlasses,” he said.

DIG Ahmed explained that one Musa Mohammed Kamarawa, 33 years from Isa local government is responsible for the supplying of arms and ammunition for the bandits in the area.

He urged the general public to provide police with intelligent information to enable them to get rid of criminals, assured that the suspects would soon be charged to court on completion of investigation.

When interviewed, Musa Mohammed who used to procure guns for the bandits confessed to the supply of gun trucks from Libya at the cost of N28 million for the bandits.

He stated that he does meet bandits in the bush to discuss because of his link with some influential politicians in Zamfara state.

Mohammed added that he has sent his brother to Libya to deliver the gun truck via the Niger Republic to Sokoto State, saying this is not the first time he is into this business saying he has been procuring arms and Ammunition for the bandits.
